The company is actively searching for a seasoned ads chief who will lead efforts to integrate advertising into ChatGPT, which now boasts over 700 million users. The move signals OpenAI’s intent to transform free, everyday chats into a multi-billion-dollar revenue stream.
Fidji Simo, former Instacart CEO and now OpenAI’s new head of apps, is spearheading the search. She joined the company just last month and is expected to bring deep experience in scaling ad-based platforms.
The ChatGPT Ads strategy aims to strike a balance between monetization and user experience, as OpenAI explores new ways to make generative AI profitable at scale.
OpenAI builds its own ad team inside the company. They want to add ads to ChatGPT in a smart way. Nick Turley, ChatGPT’s boss, says they won’t rule out ads. But they must keep it tasteful. This fits OpenAI’s big plan to grow cash flow.
