Keeping wifi secure by putting a password on it is a good practice when your WiFi plan is not unlimited and you want to keep your information secure from intruders. Learning how to change router passwords comes out really handy in such cases.
But since it’s a technical era, just putting a password over your wifi and forgetting about it, is not a good idea. Every now and then new wifi hacking tactics come and the new threat of information theft starts hovering on our heads.
But there is nothing to worry about. We will walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to reset your wifi passwords. Considering, different methods of wifi password changing methods are applicable for different service providers but the basics are simple.
The below guide is designed basically for the BSNL and Dlink routers. Following the same steps, you can change your wifi password regardless of which WiFi service provider you are using.

How To Reset Wifi Password:
The WiFi password can be only changed over the router’s web interface. Thus we need to find the router’s IP address in order to have access to it.
The Ip address for specific routers is known. For Instance, the Bsnl router’s web interface address is 192.168.1.1, for Dlink, it’s 192.168.0.1.
If you don’t know the default gateway of your service provider, no worries. You can still find it out by using a simple CMD command. Here’s how to do that.
- Type windows+R keys on your keyboard to open the Run window. Alternately, click on the Start menu and click Run. Both the steps will open the Run window.
- Now type CMD there and press Enter. The command prompt will be launched soon after.
- In the command prompt, type the command ipconfig and press enter. The result will look like the below screen.
As you can see, all the necessary information about your connection is given there. The address next to the Default Gateway is our desired address. See the screenshot below.
In order to change the wife password, you need to go to the address next to the Default Gateway. This address can be different in your system. Once you know the IP address of your router, move forward and read the next.
#How To Change Your Wifi Password In Dlink:
If yours is a dlink router, you need to follow the below steps.
Step 1. Open any web browser on your computer and go to http://dlinkrouter.local or http://192.168.0.1 web address.
Step 2. Once you do this, you will see the following page. Now enter the Admin Password if you have customized it earlier. If you have never changed the dlink Admin password and using the default one, leave the password field blank and click on Login.
And if you are using a custom password yet forgot it, you will require resetting your router to change the settings to default. To reset the router, press the reset button on your router for about 30 seconds.
Once your router is set to default settings, you can leave the password field blank.
Step 3. On login, you will be landed on the dlink innards page where you can customize the router’s default settings including the password. To change the password, click on Settings on the main menu and go to Wireless.
You will be landed on the following page.
Step 4. As you can see, the page is partitioned into two parts. The first part contains the settings for the 2.4GHz band and 5GHz band. Put the different passwords in both the bands and save the settings.

Now whenever anyone would try to connect to your network, he will have to enter the password you have just configured.
#How To Change My Wifi Password In BSNL:
For BSNL users, the router’s address is 192.168.1.1. So you can directly go to this web address without running the ipconfig command. Let’s see how to reset the BSNL wifi password.
Step 1. To change the BSNL wifi password, go to the web address http://192.168.1.1.
Step 2. Ongoing to that web address, a dialogue box asking for the authentication will pop up. If you are using the default username and password, write admin as ID and password.
Else write the custom ID and password. If you forgot your ID and password, reset your modem and change the settings to default.
Step 3. Once you enter the ID and password as admin, you will be given access to the wireless innards.
Step 4. Now click on Configuration in the left pane and Wireless Network. If you can’t locate the option, have a look at the below screenshot.
Step 5. In the above screenshot, seeing so many options might confuse you. But don’t be confused! just do as instructed.
Under Basic Settings, Set the Wireless Network to Enable. Now change the Network Name(SSID) to anything you want. This is the name of your network.
And leave the rest of the options unchanged under Global settings.
Step 6. Now come down to the Security Settings section. Under Select Security Option, set the security level to Wi-Fi Protected Access2 for the topmost security. Set Select Authentication Method to PSK.
The last step is to set the password. Write down your desired WiFi password next to the WPA passphrase and confirm the Settings.
