Touch ID is a feature by Apple, via which a fingerprint authorized security sensor is embedded in your iPhone. Using it is as simple as putting your finger on the Home button.

Touch ID on an iPhone makes the unlocking process easier, as you don’t have to enter passcodes.  It can also be used to make App Store purchases. 1. Tap Settings and click Touch ID & Passcode.
   

   

2. Tap iTunes & App Store to set it on (green).
   

   

And you are done. Now, next time whenever you go to the App Store to make a purchase, you will see a Scan Fingerprint option. Now, just use Touch ID to make a purchase.

How to set up Touch ID fingerprint Scanner

Touch ID is a really cool feature. It saves you from the hassle of entering your passcode multiple times. Follow these instructions for how to set up Touch ID on my Apple iPhone:

1. Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and Turn Passcode On.
   

   

2. Enter and then re-enter the code. Try to keep a code that is not easily guessable by anyone.
   

   

3. Set iPhone Unlock to On. You will see that a Touch ID screen will appear.
   

   

4. Place the thumb or finger that you use most frequently against the Home Button. Just, simply rest the finger against the Home Button with pushing it.
5. You will feel a little vibration. Now, continue to lift and rest your finger slowly, making small adjustments to the position of your finger each and every time.
6. After that, you will see a new window appears called Adjust Your Grip. It is used to scan the edge of the thumb, or finger. This helps improve the accuracy of the Touch ID sensor. Tap Continue.
   

   

7. Do remember that while tapping a finger tap the forward part, i.e. just underneath the nail. Keeping on tapping, until Touch ID has scanned it.

And you are Done!

How to Add Multiple Fingerprints

Now, setting the Touch ID with a single finger can be problematic at times. In case that particular finger is injured or even due to the roughness of the upper layer of a finger, Touch ID does not function properly. In such a case, adding multiple fingers always proves to be beneficial.

Most people only use Touch ID with their thumbprint, but Touch ID can actually store and read five different fingerprints. Take a look at the process:

1. Tap the Settings app.
2. Tap Touch ID & Passcode
3. Enter your device passcode when asked.
4. Under “Fingerprints” tap “Add a Fingerprint”
   

   

5. You will be directed to the same fingerprint setup screen. Now, simply repeat the above-mentioned process, and choose any additional finger you want.

How to Use someone else’s Fingerprint

To deal with emergency situations, it is always recommended to use someone’s else fingerprints too. Obviously the ones you can blindly trust, e.g. be it your any family member, your spouse or children, etc.

Take a look at the process:

1. Tap the Settings app.
2. Tap Touch ID & Passcode
3. Enter your device passcode when asked.
4. Under “Fingerprints” tap “Add a Fingerprint”
5. You’ll be taken through the normal fingerprint setup screen again but this time, let your trusted other enter one of their prints.

How to Delete Fingerprint

Now, in case you want to delete the created fingerprint for whatever reasons, you can do it easily. In fact, deleting fingerprints is way easier than creating them. Take a look at the steps:

1. Click on the Settings App and Tap on Touch ID & Passcode.
2. Type in your passcode when prompted.
3. Now, tap on the fingerprint you want to delete.
   

   

4. Click on Delete Fingerprint and press Done at the bottom right, to complete the process.

Turn off Touch ID for the Lock screen

In case of Touch ID is not suiting your security requirements, and you need a stronger alphanumeric password, then simply turn Touch ID off. Take a look at the steps:

1. Go on the Setting Tab on your screen and Tap on the Touch ID & Passcode button.
2. Enter your passcode when prompted.
3. Switch iPhone/iPad Unlock to Off.

Important Facts

There are certain important facts that you should take note of, as in certain cases Touch ID is automatically turned off to protect your security.

1. If your Touch ID hasn’t been used to unlock in six hours, you’ll need to enter your passcode to re-enable it. The same goes, in case you haven’t used your passcode to unlock in six days.
2. Touch ID requires iOs 7 or iOs modern versions.
3. In case you have entered the wrong fingerprint or your fingerprint isn’t recognized 5 times in a row, you’ll need to enter your passcode to re-enable it.
4. Touch ID is restricted to unlocking the device or making purchases from Apple. It cannot be used to access iCloud, or be used to log into third-party apps like Facebook or Instagram.
5. If Touch ID hasn’t been used in 48 hours, it will be turned off automatically.
