OpenAI has rolled out its latest major update, GPT-5.1, marking a leap forward in making AI conversations more natural, customizable, and intelligent.

The new model is now live on ChatGPT, bringing advanced personalization options, faster performance, and improved emotional tone to millions of users worldwide.

OpenAI GPT-5.1: Two New Modes — Instant and Thinking

The GPT-5.1 release introduces two distinct operating modes: Instant and Thinking.

• The Instant model focuses on rapid, conversational replies—ideal for everyday tasks, brainstorming, and quick assistance.
  
• The Thinking model offers deeper reasoning and problem-solving capabilities, perfect for complex queries and analytical tasks.
  

This dual-model design allows ChatGPT to adapt seamlessly between fast interaction and thoughtful reflection, giving users the “best of both worlds” experience.

Improved Personalization and Tone Control

One of the biggest highlights of GPT-5.1 is the new personality and tone customization feature.

Users can now select a base personality such as Efficient, Friendly, Candid, or Professional, allowing the chatbot to align its communication style with user preferences.

By going to the “Personalization” tab in settings and enabling customization, users can fine-tune how ChatGPT speaks, reasons, and even responds emotionally — a feature aimed at making AI conversations feel more human and relatable.

Smarter, Faster, More Accurate

According to OpenAI, GPT-5.1 has significantly improved its instruction-following accuracy, reducing repetitive prompts and enhancing context retention. The system now decides when to process deeply and when to reply quickly, leading to more efficient interactions.

The update also addresses earlier criticisms of GPT-5 being “too robotic” by adding a warmer tone and conversational intelligence.

Global Rollout Underway

The rollout began on November 12, 2025, for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business users, with free-tier access expected soon. Older GPT-5 versions will remain available temporarily for comparison.
